Ways to Keep Your Towels Fresh (The Do’s & Don’ts)

Ever wonder why your towels smell musty over time?
Here are some things you need to know!

1. Don’t damp wet towels on top of dirty laundry – Towels get wet, but they’re no supposed to ‘stay’ wet all the time. Combining wet towels and dirty laundry creates the perfect environment for bacteria to grow. With every use, bacteria are transferred to your skin.

2. Avoid using softeners – Waxy buildup from softeners can deteriorate the towel fibers and reduce their absorbency. Many experts recommend omitting fabric softener altogether as it can leave residues that reduce your towel’s fluffiness and absorbency.

3. Don’t mix and wash your towels with your clothes – Many people like the idea because it saves time, water, and energy, but what they don’t know is that washing towels and clothes together can transfer germs and bacteria between the items in the wash.

4. Wash towels after 3-4 uses – The best way to prevent germs from growing on your towel is to wash frequently and let it dry completely.

5. Always wash new towels before use – New towels may have chemical finishes on them, and they may contain dust and bacteria from sitting on the shelf at the store. Thoroughly washing them will get rid of these things.
