Mid-Century Modern vs. Modern Design.

Modern design is interesting because it encompasses of many different styles – including contemporary, minimalist, Scandinavian, and mid-century modern. 

Over the years, people began decorating in a more practical, minimalistic way. Although modern design includes elements of mid-century modern design, the two aesthetics are distinct. 

Mid-Century Modern is amongst one of the most organically modern styles! This style has a retro feel and uses bright, bold pops of saturated colors. Pop artists, such as Andy Warhol and the Space Age, were iconic figures that heavily influenced the mid-century modern design.

Mid-Century Modern is considered modern design as it still values function over form, while it adds its own unique twist. This interior design uses dynamic decorative accents favouring decorative items to a minimum. 

It originated in Palm Springs in the 1950s, where houses were flat with low roofs and open floor plans. Living and dining rooms were made open space for entertaining many people at once.

One of the reason why Mid-Century Modern décor is favored by young people and families is due to its simple design approach and the use of open spaces. Adding plants, adding pops of colors here and there, low furniture, arched lighting, these are the simple ways you can integrate Mid-Century Modern design in your space. 

Mid-Century Modern homes tend to look and feel more lived-in than traditional modern homes. Mid-Century Modern enthusiasts love to keep seating areas comfy, and showing off their personality through their abstract, atomic, and geometrical patterned art.
