Referred to the art of placement, the goal of Feng Shui is to provide your space a more Zen and positive energy. How you arrange your furniture and how to be mindful of the things located in your home, these are the simple steps to Feng Shui your home.
But with the different layouts in our homes, how do we do so? Find here some tips on how you can arrange your furniture in the most ideal Feng Shui positions.
The Bed
The bed is the most important piece of furniture in Feng Shui! It represents your overall wellbeing and where you place your bed makes a big impact to your energy. The best location of your bed is called the commanding position. The commanding position allows you to feel calmer and more at ease, since your subconscious level will be aware of anything coming towards you.
So what does it take to be in the commanding position?
- The door to your bedroom must be visible from when you are lying in bed
- If this is not possible, you can use a mirror to reflect the door from your bed
- Do not locate the bed directly in line to the door, you can place something in between your door and bed
The Sofa
In Feng Shui, the living room or family room are areas in the home that represent family harmony since these rooms are where family gathers. Your sofa will need to be positioned in a way that allows your family members to sit comfortably and to position the sofa to make this room as cozy as possible. You can add an armchair or two along with your sectional sofa or L-shaped sofa to create conversation and interaction.

The Desk
Another very important piece of furniture in Feng Shui is your desk! The desk represents you work life and success in career. Just like the bed, the desk is should also be in the commanding position. This means you will need to be able to see the entrance of the room while sitting at your desk, without having it in life with the door. And you can always add a mirror if you can’t see the room’s entrance from the desk to reflect the door.
The Dining Table
The dining table represents your connecting to the community and the friends you have in your life. It is best to locate your dining room in the back half of the home, as far as possible from the front door. If a dining table is placed close to the front door, it will represent temporary friendships or friends coming in and out of your life quickly. A dining table placed further into the home represents long lasting friendships.
