How to hang your frame like a pro?
Whether it’s your art print or pictures frame, it’s quite an easy task for you to do it yourself. Sure, things can be tricky, to finding the right height and to where you should hang your frame. Planning them beforehand will certainly save you a lot of costs and time!
Tip 1
Know your wall surface, is your wall solid or rough?
- Plaster
- Exposed Bricks
Plaster: These walls are the easiest to hang! The trick here is to find a wall stud that is most secure to anchor. It’s always good too to plot (with pencil) and pre-drill the hole before hanging. To prevent from crumbling, place a piece of tape on the wall before drilling. -P1
Exposed Bricks: Use a wall anchor pre-drilling and use a masonry bit on your drill to drill into the mortar! You should not drill it on the actual brick to prevent the bricks from crumbling.
Tip 2
Measure for the ideal height
Memorize this important rule – for placing a frame on the eye level, it is approximately 145 – 152 cm from the floor. As the middle painting should be sitting at this height, our pro tip is also to: take the height of the frame, divide by two, subtract the distance from the top of the frame to the hardware, then add 150 cm.
Tip 3
Find your hanging hardware
Depending on your preference and the weight of the frames, are you planning on using?
- With a nail
This method is the one that leaves the least damage as simple nail holes can be as small as a little dot and it’s definitely the safest! This is perfect for heavier frames especially frames that use solid wood.
- Without a nail
If you are hesitant to not make any holes in your walls, having an adhesive-backed picture hooks and strips are great options. However, this is only possible for lighter frames, normally with a maximum weight of 5 kilograms.
- With a wire
This method is used for greater stability and will require you to still use nails! Consider hanging your picture with a wire suspended between two D-rings while opposite to each other.
Tip 4
Ensure that it’s perfectly level
Once you are done fixing the height to hang your frame, use a pencil to mark the wall. Then, use a level to check if the marks are at the same height. If your room feels slopy, feel free to adjust to make it look straight.
Tip 5
Now, hang your frames!
Tweak if necessary and have fun while arranging your wall arts! Ensure that the art frames are perfectly level. If still unsure, consider taking a picture of your empty wall and plot them on your phone to before drilling the frames to the wall.
